Coastal Retreat

Concept

This project aimed to create a tranquil escape that honors its coastal setting. The design prioritizes panoramic ocean views and a strong connection between indoor and outdoor living spaces. Natural materials and a minimalist aesthetic were used to complement the landscape.

Challenges

Building in a coastal environment required careful consideration of materials to withstand salt spray and humidity. The design also needed to be resilient to potential storms while maintaining an open, airy feel and minimizing its ecological footprint.

Solution

We utilized durable materials like corrosion-resistant steel, treated timber, and high-performance glass. The structure is elevated on stilts to protect against flooding and allow the natural dune landscape to flow underneath. Large sliding glass walls open up to expansive decks, blurring the line between inside and out.
